Patricia DeTreville is a Charleston divorce attorney and serves of counsel to DeTREVILLE LAW & MEDIATION, LLC. Her practice includes all family law cases, including those involving divorce, separation, custody, and the division of property, as well as adoptions, name changes and other family disputes. Patricia was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, where she graduated from Bishop England High School. She received her B.A. (1972) and her J.D. (1986) from the University of South Carolina. During the ten year period between college graduation and entering law school, Patricia was employed by the US Postal Service (where she was elected as a union steward), by the Orangeburg County Public Schools (where she was a middle-school teacher), and by the former law firm of Burkett, Richter, Wooddy, Bargmann, Cisa & O’Neill (where she was a paralegal and then manager of the Mt. Pleasant office). Patricia’s professional memberships include the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar, the S.C. Women Lawyers’ Association, and the Charleston County Bar Association. She is a co-founder and former president of the Family Law Section of the Charleston County Bar Association.Mediation in all family law cases has been a particular area of interest and concentration for Patricia since her initial certification as a family law mediator in 1997. DeTreville Law & Mediation LLC continues to provide, through her training and experience, personalized and effective mediation services, thus successfully ending many disputes for many families.
On a personal level, Patricia is the proud parent of 3 young adults, one of whom is now an attorney, one of whom is a first grade teacher, and one of whom is a paralegal. She supported their aspirations and activities throughout the years, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Charlestowne Montessori School, after serving on the Board itself for a number of years. She founded the PTA at Charlestowne Montessori School. Patricia has fond memories of many memorable seasons in the bleachers and in the stands at St. Andrews Playgrounds, as well as at Bishop England High School and Porter-Gaud School, as a wildly enthusiastic fan of the team activities of her children. (The firm continues to sponsor a youth baseball team each year at St. Andrews Playground). Patricia also enjoys supporting athletic programs in a variety of ways, including serving as team parent for many of her children’s athletic teams over the years and volunteering to assist those programs and activities. She is an avid gardener, and a dedicated student of Civil War and World War II history.
