- What We Do/FAQs
DeTreville Law & Mediation, LLC is a family-owned and operated law firm with deep roots in the local community. Patricia and Michael DeTreville understand the impact that legal difficulties, whether it is divorce, custody disputes, criminal charges, or injury claims, can have on the family unit. The primary focus of the firm is in achieving resolutions to legal problems that assist families in their time of need.
We have been entrusted by your friends and neighbors in solving thousands of legal problems. Our attorneys can analyze your particular situation, and not only provide you with a range of possible outcomes, but also can provide you with a roadmap for how to arrive at each of those outcomes. Knowing what to expect and when to expect it can provide you with a deeper peace of mind in troubling times.
Our attorneys will not fight legal battles simply for the sake of fighting --- we will always attempt to resolve that which can be resolved, reserving the truly disputed issues for dispute. This saves our clients, time, headaches, and money, while guiding them on the path to resolution. Knowing what fights are worth fighting, and which ones are not, requires the discretion and knowledge that only comes from years of experience, experience that we put to work for you on a daily basis.
We encourage you to review several firms or attorneys before deciding which one suits you the best. As part of that review, we invite you to call us at 571-0537 to schedule an initial consultation, to get a better feel for how we operate, and to decide for yourself if we can be entrusted with your personal and family affairs.
We charge a nominal fee of $50.00 for consultations related to Family Court matters. In return for this fee, our attorneys will provide you with objective insight into your Family Court matter, including a preliminary legal analysis of your individual circumstances and overview of the processes and procedures that will shape your case. The nominal nature of this consultation fee is in accord with our firm's desire to save our client's resources in every fashion possible.
We do not charge consultation fees for criminal or injury cases.
There is no way to adequately predict the cost of a specific case in advance of an initial consultation.
In general, the cost of a Family Court matter will be shaped largely by the reasonability of the other party, and the reasonability of the other party's attorney. We have little control over these factors. We will quote you a retainer fee that we believe should be adequate to finalize your matter at the initial consultation, but changes in your case will almost always lead to changes in the cost of your case.
The cost of a criminal defense matter, such as DUI, will likewise be tailored to the individual circumstances of your case. The total cost of these cases will be determined by factors such the anticipated difficulty of your defense, which includes your prior conviction history, the court in which your case is being heard, and the identity of the prosecutor (or the lack thereof) handling your case. Our fees for criminal defense matters are generally flat fees, meaning you pay a single fee in advance, regardless of the length of your case.
We generally accept injury matters, such as car accidents, worker's compensation cases, etc., on a "contingent" fee basis, meaning we charge you nothing in advance, and are paid a percentage of what you ultimately collect, if and when you collect. We also generally advance the costs of such litigation, and are reimbursed for those costs out of a final settlement/verdict.
